Candlemas

Candlemas, or the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, takes place on Monday, February 2. On this feast we are reminded that Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple, consecrating their firstborn son to God. This feast is associated with the blessing of candles.
Here at St. Charles, parishioners are invited to bring their own candles from home to daily Mass on Monday morning where they will be blessed at the beginning of Mass.
As Pope St. John Paul II said, "Candlemas reminds us that Jesus came as a light shining in the darkness, and He calls us to be a light for the world."
